The U.S. Army awarded Hanwha Defense USA a deal worth up to $233 million to deliver K9 mobile howitzer prototypes for testing.
The K9 beat competitors including Rheinmetall's RCH 155, BAE's Archer, and the Elbit-Anduril-Oshkosh SIGMA platform.
The program aims to replace ageing M777 and M109A7 howitzers after decades of failed efforts, including the cancelled Crusader and ERCA programs.
