Former UK deputy national security adviser Paddy McGuinness says Ireland should skip legacy systems and invest in drones and AI-enabled technology.
Late entrants avoid inheriting outdated equipment, he argued, noting cheap drones already threaten European jets, tanks, and naval ships.
He said the geography of security now centres on cloud infrastructure, data, space access, and undersea cables rather than borders alone.
